How to to Increase Your Internet Presence--7 Methods

So, you are on the Internet, you have a Website or Blog that is full of valuable information or a great product. You have spent alot of time designing your Site, and you are happy with it, and your viewers will be also---If you had any. Day after Day you check your Stats only to find that nobody, except you or maybe a few friends have visited your Site. You visit numerous Sites, Sites that have a great deal of traffic, and find that your Site is just as informative, or has Great information, just as they do. So what is the problem?

Welcome to the Internet, you are now a "Webmaster", the Author of your own Website, the Designer, everything is in your control, but with Little or nothing to show for it. You have followed every method in developing a great website, you have ton's of information, or loads of products, you just don't have the "Internet Presense". Internet Presence=Someone knows your there!!!

Step1
So how do you get this Internet Presence? How does one standing in a crowd get noticed--By Screaming!!! No matter what product or service you are trying to sell, there are numerous Websites and Blogs devoted to the same product, some sucessful. some not so sucessful. They have the same product, so what is the one thing that determines their sucess or failiure--Viewers, people, customers---that's the difference.
Step2
How do you scream???

There are several thought's on the best and most productive methods to improve ones traffic to their Website or Blog. Without a great deal of traffic coming to your Site everyday--you might as well just hang it up, traffic is the key to any sucessful Site. This Traffic is only achieved by alot of work--not the 30 minutes a day sales pitch you will receive from so many of these Affiliate Programs. You must use every tool avaliable to you to be heard by numerous people, and have links to your Site plastered in as many places on the "NET" as possible. The methods I will list below are very effective, I will not bore you with a description of each method, as that would take numerous pages.
Step3
1. Write and Submit Articles to Numerous Article Directories:
Submitting articles to numerous directories has proven to be a very effective method of drawing traffic to ones Website or Blog. Well written articles with a topic people are searching for can draw a large amount of viewers. The ability to "Plug" your Site in the Author Bio is a great way to forward the interested reader to your Site---remember--He found you, and you must convince the reader that you are an authority. Once the reader feels they can "Trust" your Info--they will want more!

2. Manual Traffic Exchanges:
I have no use for Auto-surf Traffic Exchanges, I want at least a slight chance that the surfer will see my content.

3. Join Entrecard:
If you have the extra time to spend "Dropping" your card on other members, Entrecard can definitly increase your Traffic. Though I believe the percentage of members that will actually scroll through your Site is low, if you can catch their eye with interesting content, I have found them to be useful

4. Join Forums related to your subject:
Simple---Post your opinions, make comments and place a link to your Site in your Signature--I have had a great deal of success with this.

5. Join Twitter:
A community of"What I Did Today", allows you to acquire friends and "Plug" your articles, Blog or Website

6. Leave comments on Blogs:
All Webmasters read the comments made on their Post's. Place your link to your Website in your comment--this allows the Webmaster and others reading the comment to visit your Site.

7. Join Blogging Communities:
Bloggers--one big happy family---a family that likes to check out "The Other Guy". Bloggers love to rate other Blogs, get pointers from others, make comments and swap links. I've done well in the communities I have Joined, very little time has to be invested and you can learn alot about improving your Blog by viewing others.

How to Make Good Money on Ebay

Ebay is one of the coolest places on the web. There are literally thousands of people on the site at any given time. The sweetest thing is that not only can you find practically anything under the sun on there, you can also make good money. Here's how.

Step1
The first step to making money on Ebay is to register. It is a good idea to start out as a buyer first. Ebay business success  is built on your reputation on the site. People want to know how you do business before they buy from you. After you bid on an item or two and win, promptly pay and request feedback from the seller to start to build up your rating.
Step2
Create a Seller's Account.
Step3
Sign up for a PayPal account. Paypal is very important when selling items on Ebay because it offers you protection from deadbeat buyers.
Step4
Decide on what items you want to sell.
Step5
Research closed auctions to find out if there is a demand for your item. How much did similar items sell for in previous auctions? Did similar items even sell or is there a long list of auctions without bids for items like yours. Taking the time to research ahead of time can save you time and money. And help you launch successful auctions.
Step6
Write an honest description of your item. Leave out the hype. This is not the place to be flashy and play with words. You have to be clear on the condition of the item you have to sell. You need to disclose the realistic view of the item. I have sold books on Ebay and I let people know if there are pages with highlighted text or writing on them. Or even if there is a tear in the book jacket. Ebay Buyers appreciate your honesty and will still purchase items that aren't completely perfect, but don't want surprises.
Step7
Be clear on your terms. What payment methods will you take? If you will take personal checks, how long will you wait before you will ship the item? A good rule of thumb is to wait until the check clears the bank. Look through other seller's pages for ideas on terms, but don't steal their text. You don't want to do anything to make someone upset with you on this site. Bad feedback of anykind can hurt your business. Besides stealing wrong!
Step8
Lastly, follow through on your promises. Ship your items that have been sold safely and promptly. I have used priority mail for my items because its quick and easy. You may offer buyers various options for shipping methods. Its mainly based on what they are willing to pay for. But whatever the method, don't mess around, send sold items out as soon as possible and communicate with your buyers so they don't think they are dealing with a bad seller.

This article is intended to help you protect your system with some common sense knowledge and some pointers on slightly advanced tips.

Step1
Most likely, chances are you are booted into XP or Vista. If you haven't already download SpyBot, AdAware and AVG or Avast anti-virus. These are all free. Choose between AVG and Avast you won't need 2 anti-virus running unless you're really paranoid. Personally I prefer Avast. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5&cdlPid=10844457 http://www.avast.com/eng/download.html http://free.avg.com/ http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
Step2
Download Spybot (the first link above). This computer will check for any harmful spyware, and tracking programs running silently in your computer. These not only track the websites you visit for directed marketing (which is unethical and should be illegal) but also slow down your computer. They also present security threats to your privacy. There is a bit of a learning curve as SpyBot can modify your registry but it's well worth it!
Step3
The second link is AdAware. This used to be free but they are apparently charging now. To save you some time I've linked to a mirror that allows you to download the latest version free. I'm not sure if it is a trial or not - there isn't a big learning curve. This helps remove any adware programs that SpyBot might have missed.
Step4
Download a free anti-virus, the second to last two links in step 1. Either of these are good but I encourage you to read the documents on them to see which better suits your needs.
Step5
Get a decent firewall, the last link in step 1 is for ZoneAlarm. This is a decent firewall and will get the job done in the free version. Also a bit of a learning curve but again worth it.
Step6
If you are up to building your own firewall then read on. If you have a spare computer lying around and you don't know what to do with it try turning it into a firewall with IpCop. http://www.ipcop.org/ There is a massive learning curve for the beginner here! This will be a difficult setup but you will learn a lot! You will also have an awesome firewall and something to put on your resume.
Step7
If you have a network in your house you can try attacking it. This is a great way to test how well your system is holding up. For this you will need to have Linux running on one of your computers. If you don't want to install Linux on your hard drive you can run it live from a cd. There are many different versions of Linux - all are free because they are protected under the GNU public license. I believe the most user-friendly version of Linux right now would be Ubuntu.
Step8
Reading on how to defend your computer will help keep you current with trends in the community. Magazines like the hacker quarterly and phrack will help with this.
Step9
Download Firefox 3.0 if you aren't running it already. This is a safer browser than IE 6/7 and it's free! It also has a lot of addons like piclens and forecastfox. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Step10
Don't save your passwords to your computer. This is the easiest way to hacked - even if you are not online! All it takes is someone with a little know how to sit at your computer for a minute or less and that's it - a good amount of your accounts will be stolen! Write down your passwords and put them somewhere safe. Some people advocate keeping them on a file in your computer and encrypted.

How to Fix a Slow Computer - 10 Quick Steps

Does your computer seem slow, unresponsive or out of date only a few months after your purchased it? You need to do everything that you can to prolong the lifecycle of your computer and to fix a slow computer. Here are 10 quick steps you can take to help fix your slow computer and make it run like new again.

Step1
Optimize Display Settings. By removing some of the unnecessary visual options on your computer you can help fix your slow computer and improve the performance. Go to the Control Panel Click System Click Advanced tab In the Performance tab click Settings There are a range of options you can remove here. I would suggest you only retain the following as ticked: (1) Show shadows under menus (2) Show shadows under mouse pointer (3) Show translucent selection rectangle (4) Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop (5) Use visual styles on windows and buttons You can play around with these settings, as these will not affect the stability of your computer.
Step2
Disable File Indexing. File Indexing is a service that uses a huge amount of your computers RAM. By disabling this your system can immediately become faster and more responsive. How do you do this? a. Double Click the My Computer icon b. Right click the c: drive and hit properties c. Uncheck “allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching” Apply this change to C: subfolders and files and click OK.
Step3
Remove Your Desktop Picture. It may be nice to have a pretty picture on your desktop background. However, did you know that this pictures uses a huge amount of memory and can slow your computer performance. If you remove the image this can improve the speed of your computer.
Step4
Scan Your Computer Registry. RegCure™ is one of the top rated Registry Cleaners available in the market. One of the best ways to improve the speed of your computer is to clean your computer registry with an effective registry cleaner. Visit www.fixaslowcomputer.com for a free scan to see if your registry requires attention.
Step5
Empty the prefetch folder. ‘Prefetching’ is when windows XP pre-loads portions of data and applications that are frequently loaded. While this has the benefit of allowing programs to appear and start quickly… after a while it can end up a burden on your computer as XP wastes time pre-loading obsolete data. By regularly emptying your prefetch folder you can gain some improvements in system performance. How do you do this? The prefetch folder resides on your local hard disk, under the Windows folder. %systemroot%\prefetch -or- X:\windows\prefetch Where X is the drive letter where you have Windows installed. Either path will get you to your local system. The second path is for those who have the default installation on the most commonly used drive letter, C:\
Step6
Reduce the number of fonts. Extra fonts on your computer do use up a lot of your systems power! TrueType Fonts in particular are a drain on computer resources. So how can you get rid of some of these fonts? Open Control Panel Open Fonts folder Move fonts you do not require to a temp directory so you can reinstall them later if required. Anything over 300 fonts is probably excessive and can really slow your computer.
Step7
Improve folder browsing. You can improve your folder browsing so that a single windows explorer window does not take the rest of your operating system down you can launch separate folder windows in multi processes. Click on My Computer, tools, then Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Scroll down to "Launch folder windows in a separate process," and enable this option. Step 2. Stop Windows XP automatically searching for network files and printers everytime you open windows explorer. 1) Open My Computer 2) Click on Tools menu 3) Click on Folder Options 4) Click on the View tab. 5) Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box 6) Click Apply 7) Click Ok 8) Reboot your computer
Step8
Disable Performance Counters. Windows XP has a performance monitor utility which monitors several areas of your PC's performance. These utilities take up system resources so disabling is a good idea. To disable: 1) download and install the Extensible Performance Counter List 2) Then select each counter in turn in the 'Extensible performance counters' window and clear the 'performance counters enabled' checkbox at the bottom button below
Step9
Disconnect USB Devices not in use. Printers, Scanners, Cameras and hard drives that connect to your computer can slow your system when Windows boots. This is because Windows will load all the drivers for the devices connected to your computer. If you are not using these items regularly disconnect them. You can plug them back in when you need them and Windows will only load the drivers it needs at any time.
Step10
Scan for Spyware or Viruses. Unfortunately, whenever you use your computer to access the internet you are at risk from Spyware and Viruses. If you computer becomes infected it will significantly slow your computer, not to mention making it vulnerable to crashing, corruption of data and ultimate failure. You need to ensure that your computer is protected from viruses and spyware. Visit www.strowan.com for details on the most popular anti virus or spyware products on the market today. Each of these will give you a free scan to see if your computer is infected.
